Hypercities!
Out of these three pages I found Hypercities to be the most usable and interesting. It was fun to go through different locations and see how they’ve changed and developed over the years.
To start I just looked up the county of Fairfax. My dad used to have a huge map of the county and a few of the immediately surrounding counties. I remember looking at it and not really recognizing it. It had changed so much in a few years (the map was dated 1985 and the last time I looked at it before he took it down was 1995), I wanted to see how much it had changed in my whole lifetime.
But alas:
No map available!
That’s okay, I’ll just pick from the random cities they do have.
Berlin in 1250? No problem (if they have Berlin in 1250 why is there no data for the D.C. area?!)
Berlin in 1650? Also no problem! (1650: Berlin 1650 Nach… Nach what?! Nach = after, auf Deutsch)
I had too much fun with this cite, although I wish they had more information available (although beta’s in the name, so I’ll be patient… this time). But looking at really old maps of Berlin was interesting enough for me, I didn’t even really poke around too much with the other sites because they weren’t as cool.
